School Program: Athletics

Football
A well-founded belief at St. Michael’s is that rigorous athletics go hand in hand with rigorous academics in forming a well-rounded young man.  Established in 2001, Pioneer football is the newest addition to the prep school’s athletic program.  With its need for discipline, camaraderie, and perseverance, football is ideally suited for an all-boys boarding school. Pioneer football competes in the Express League.  Under the leadership of Head Coach Aaron Meschuk, the Pioneers regularly advance to the CIF Southern Section eight-man playoffs.

Cross Country
It takes more than fast runners to make a good Cross Country Team.  For many years the team has won their league championship and has gone on to the CIF finals.  The steep hills for which our home course is known is one reason for the team’s consistently strong performance. These hills, while brutal at times, demand more from a runner than other courses might, including Mt. San Antonio College, the regular site of league finals.  These dynamics, along with an ever- supportive coach and a God given talent to run, are the reasons why St. Michaels’ Cross Country Team will continue to triumph.

Soccer
The St. Michael’s Soccer Team has qualities that lead to its success when it counts the most - on the field.  Soccer “on the hilltop” is blessed to have one of our most dedicated teachers as its coach, Mr. Marcel Tomescu.  Each player on the team is placed in the position most befitting his talents, which insures the success of the team.  A team that comes from a small student body means more playing time on the field and the abundance of individual attention for each player.  Soccer team members enjoy many blessings and benefits together with fellow players, our coach, our parents, and our Norbertine fathers.  Together we make memories that will last a lifetime.

Baseball
The St. Michael’s Baseball Team is among the most competitive teams in CIF Division Seven.  In 2007 the team won the Express League Championship, and advanced to the CIF quarterfinals.  Five of the players were nominated to the All-League team.   One player was named to the All CIF First Team and received the league MVP honor.  The program has been built on hard work, discipline, and perseverance.  Athletes with a diligent work ethic and strong desire to learn and grow in the game of baseball excel in our program.  Head Coach Conor Barnes leads the team.
