Students

Marcel Anthony Chavez - Playing baseball for St. Michael’s has been an honor. Baseball meant the world to me. To St. Michael’s students, it was about coming together as a team for a common goal and to have fun. I want to thank Mr. Barnes for being a supportive coach and allowing me to have so much fun while playing for his team. All the people I have played with over the course of my St. Michael’s career have given me wonderful memories. I want to thank my father, Joe Chavez. I learned everything I know about the game of baseball from him. I cannot begin to describe how I appreciate all his help and love. He taught me that whatever I endeavor, if I have dedication and love, I can accomplish my goals.

John-Michael Anthony Covey - My brother, Matthew, tragically passed away on October 7, 2006. When I returned to St. Michael’s, everyone here consoled me with their heartfelt words and prayers for my brother. Although I had a strong desire to remain with my family, I desired to be closer to Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. The reception of Him each morning in the Holy Eucharist and visiting Him in adoration each night enabled me to grow in my Catholic faith. This I knew was the greatest grace to offer my brother. I do not know what would have become of me if I had not come here. It was here that I matured and learned to act as a man. Through the challenging academics, the sports, and the many prayer opportunities, I have learned a great deal about endurance.

Chibuzor Chinedu Ejiaga - Every day my character was tested in various ways at St. Michael’s. Whether it was playing football in 98ş weather or studying for a big philosophy test, we students were made better for obstacles we faced. Obstacles show one what type of person one is; they also bring people closer together. I will miss my classmates. We initially came as boys, and we are leaving as men.

Michael Joseph Forsyth - I wanted to go to a school that offered an education more challenging than that which I had up to this point received and placed high value on its Catholic ideals. St. Michael’s seemed the only choice. An added bonus to this school was the fact that it offered football.

Roberto Jesús González Ruiz - We have everything at St. Michael’s: joy, happiness, love, friends, and most importantly, God. I give thanks to my parents for making the right choice, and to God for giving me this great life. I cannot believe how fast the time has passed. Now I am ready to take the next steps of my life, going to college and raising a family in the Catholic manner that I learned during my years at St Michael’s.

An Duy Khong - It was during my freshman year that I had my “conversion.” Religion was a natural part of life here. The upperclassmen often organized school-wide prayers such as the rosary and Stations of the Cross as a way of offering spiritual support for those that struggled with personal problems. I could not help notice that the people who were generally happiest prayed often. These things combined with the encouragement of my new-found friends led me to the confessional where I found God’s mercy.

Matthew Christian Mariscal - I came to St. Michael’s not for my parents, but because I needed to become a better person. I needed to get an education that would leave an impact on my life. After four years of hard work, I am able to see myself as a young man who has matured in faith and reason with the help of God and my school.

Salvador Miranda - Over the years at St. Michael’s, I have gained such good friends that I would never have thought it possible. Another good aspect of St. Michael’s is that I live, work, and study with friends. Living here has taught me how to live fraternally and peaceably with others. I know that these skills will help me in college and throughout my life. I know that the friendships formed here will last a lifetime!

John Thomas Oven - At St. Michael’s I learned that high school was not just about passing classes in order to get into the college of one’s choice. The St. Michael’s education is about leaving as a senior with a better understanding of life and morality and a deeper love of God and His Church. Looking back, I see Fr. Sebastian and Fr. Victor as my best teachers. They inspired me to learn more and set an example for me to follow. St. Michael’s has not only given me an academic foundation, but also a strong moral character which will help me as I go out into the world.

Khoi Anh Pham - A lifeline was thrown to me when I joined the football team in my sophomore year. Coach Meschuk is the best disciplinarian and football coach I have ever met. We rewrote the history of football at St. Michael’s with every game. We paid a high price for our success. We bled, cried, and sweated everything we had on Malta Field, but it was through this experience that I learned to find myself as a person.

Paolo Bartolomeo Saglietto - St. Michael’s has been an experience I will never forget. There is nothing I can do to repay this gift I have been given, and I am, therefore, forever indebted to God, my wonderful parents and this school. I now have a strong Catholic faith that will never leave me, and carry with me memories that always hold a special place in my heart.

James Patrick Schroeder - Brotherhood is one of the blessings that will stay with us after we leave. Becoming brothers did not happen only because we live together, or because of sports. It was made possible by trying to follow the example of the Norbertines here at the abbey. These men in white helped me grow to love my faith as well as my comrades. St. Michael’s does not just make us smarter, it makes us men of God for others.

Ali Malek Smailey - I had my first encounter with St. Michael’s during my stays at summer camp. I remember walking in the hallway outside the library and noticing pictures of boys dressed in suits and ties. I never dreamed I would become one of those young men. Now, I call this place my second home.

Joshua Peter Tractenberg - I am fortunate to have come here to learn faith, character, and academics. I am able to ask anything about my faith and it is answered by the Norbertine priests who want to help get me to heaven. Not only do I have faith, but academics as well. I am thankful to all of my teachers who have taught me so much.
